Pine County has an opportunity for one (1) Water Resources-Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Intern and is looking for individual applicants who are dependable, have a strong work ethic, and who are interested in expanding their knowledge on natural resources while making a positive impact on their community water resources.
Essential Duties: Responsibilities include assistance with AIS education efforts including: tabling at events, working with boat landing signs, mailings, advertising campaigns; assisting watercraft inspection program; compile and organize data for lake vegetation management planning; assist Lake Service Providers with boat decontamination; assist with 4-H Aquatic Robotics programming; conduct AIS outreach to lake associations and resorts; inventory culverts for fish passage and hydraulic connectivity; assist County Shoreland Management Program; work in adverse weather conditions in MN climate. Applicants must be reliable, punctual, dedicated to the position for the season.
Position is from May 2017-September 2017 Friday through Sunday with additional time worked during holiday weekends with some flexibility on start date. Location of position may vary.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must be enrolled in a post-secondary water resources, natural resources, or related degree program and must also have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license. Applicants must have excellent communication, organization, human relations, and public relations skills; excellent written and oral communication with public, agencies, and law enforcement. Applicants must have the ability to work independently and be self-directed and organized and the ability to work as a team. Training for AIS will be coordinated through the DNR prior to starting date.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with data analysis and research protocols; knowledge of natural resource issues, aquatic environmental processes, and the recreational use of water resources.
Salary : $11.00-$14.00/hour depending on qualifications
