Job Summary
Travelers has a challenging career opportunity for a solution architect to join a talented architecture team in our dynamic and growing Personal Insurance IT Architecture group. This hands on role provides leadership in all technical aspects of our projects, architecting end-to-end solutions across distributed, host and business intelligence environments. Important to the success of this position is the ability to understand business challenges and to translate them into long term sustainable technical solutions. The architect will work in conjunction with the architecture community to ensure alignment with roadmaps, reference architecture and standards through a common assurance process. We will consider candidates who may be newer to architecture but who possess solid related information technology experience, architecture acumen, and leadership potential. The ideal candidate will have experience in current technologies and be able to lend hands-on expertise if needed.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

Work closely with internal business partners and IT leadership to provide strategic thinking, solutions and roadmaps while driving architectural recommendations.
Lead solution and design discussions and facilitate decision making process.
Ensure sound architectural practices are followed through architecture blueprint, design and code reviews and through mentorship and organization influence.
Adopt and communicate new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices and technology assistance.
Perform project level design, debug and performance analysis.
Perform product evaluations, and Proof of Concepts.
Provide architectural strategy and subject matter expertise in the following areas (dependent on knowledge and expertise):

Front end Web Development Technologies (HTML5, JavaScript/ECMAScript, CSS)

Consumer and B2B User Interfaces

Web Service design

Languages and Development platforms (Python, Ruby, Node.js, .NET, Spring, JBoss, J2EE, etc.)

Transaction design (OLTP)

Cloud Technologies (Cloud Foundry, Amazon)

Performance Engineering

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required.
3 years of experience in enterprise, application, and/or information architecture required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge

Strong emphasis on execution a plus.
Prior architecture or application development experience.
Full stack development experience a plus.
Experience with scripting languages such as Ruby, Python, Perl, Bash a plus.
Practical experience with web development technologies, HTML, JavaScript, CSS.
Responsive design, AJAX, HTML5, Angular, Bootstrap, Backbone.js, Ember.js, experience a plus.
Experience with REST and middleware technologies like Rack, WSGI, Express.js a plus.
Knowledge or experience with functional programming, JavaScript, Scala, Clojure a plus.

Is responsible for important and confidential information.
