Under direction, performs a variety of tasks within the Development Services Department. The Planning Intern assists with and completes administrative and technical assignments and research. Interns will receive mentoring and broad experience in a variety of areas within the field of planning and development services.
Examples of Duties:
Assist with checking plans submitted by developers and the public;
Assist with reviewing applications for completeness and accuracy;
Provides assistance with planning, zoning, and environmental studies;
Assist with the preparation of reports and findings;
Assist with the development and presentation of recommendations on development permits, special use permits, variances, tentative tract maps, residential planned development permits, and other zoning applications;
Assist with updating zoning maps and the coordination of the General Plan;
Coordinate planning activities with other City departments and with outside agencies;
Assist staff with inspections for projects for compliance with approved Plans, Planning/Historic Conditions of Approval, and other City requirements and/or ordinances;
Assists with special projects in support of the planning department; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
Equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with major course work in Urban Planning or a related field.
Current enrollment in upper division courses of a bachelor’s degree program is desired. Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Special Requirements :
