Interior Architect/ Construction PM
Creating space that is livable and functional is what you do. But it’s not just decorative. It’s improving the quality of the space by developing the floor plan, or adding details that making the space totally new. Having done that, you’re creating construction drawings in AUTOCAD and detailing the kitchens, bathrooms, millwork and built-ins. But it doesn’t stop there, from doing the design work you also have a keen understanding of how a construction project should go and you are able to dovetail the design vision with the construction process, so that the project goes smoothly and keeps to the vision that reflects the client’s’ needs and style. You understand that great layout, and great design, are nothing without great craftsmanship. This applies to space planning, furniture detailing and project management. It all comes together within client budgets and timelines, of course.
If you are an architect who loves interiors and overseeing construction projects, or project manager who loves space planning and moving walls, that blend is what our clients demand. An Interior Architect/Project Manager at Paul Schulman Design will collaborate with our Principal on all aspects of project design while managing projects from selections, to contractors, to completion of the punch list. Everyone on our team has the opportunity to work on multiple projects for various clients in Chicago, keeping things interesting and innovative, and very fast paced. We’re a small business, so you will have to keep a lot of balls in the air, you’ll need to keep in constant communication with contractors and vendors, and coordinate orders with our Office Manager. On top of that, we need your help to continue to improve our internal systems to ease communication and keep our projects flowing.
Excellent written and verbal communication is essential, so is having a car. No one on our team succeeds alone; you need to demonstrate your capabilities in building relationships with vendors, installers, clients and co-workers. AUTOCAD proficiency is required as is a can do attitude that keeps going until the task is complete, even if that means some long days.
If you’re up to this challenge, have a Bachelor’s degree, and at least 2-5 years of work experience in architecture and construction, you might be the right person for our team. Show us your passion for design and your drive to be a success in this field.
We are offering a salary of $45K – $55K/year, paid holidays and sick days, and reimbursement for health care.
Paul Schulman Design is a growing interior design firm that also manages construction projects for our clients. Our office is collegial and dynamic — but focused. We don’t have a lot of chit-chat — there’s lots of work to do and we all want to do that work well. The right person can make a huge difference here. If you are that person send us a one page resume, a link to your portfolio, and some construction drawings.
