Electrical Build Leader

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • With the Plant Manager, develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labor and equipment to meet production targets;
  • Implement production schedules;
  • Plan and implement changes to equipment, production systems and methods of work as directed by plant management;
  • Oversee training of employees in the use of new equipment or production techniques;
  • Keep the Plant Manager fully informed at all times regarding issues affecting on-time and/or on-budget completion of jobs;
  • Forecast and plan manpower requirements with the Mechanical Build Leader and Plant Manager to maintain build schedules;
  • Ensure that all safety and lockout procedures are followed and that all employees are contractors have the required training in health and safety procedures;

Jobs

  • Be involved in line up meetings for up-front planning purposes and to ensure that estimated hours are accurate;
  • Be involved during the design phase to provide input on controls design and to obtain advance knowledge of job content;
  • In co-ordination with the Mechanical Build Leader, schedule and process jobs for the plant;
  • Control and analyze hours for maximum efficiency;
  • In conjunction with the Purchasing Department and the Receiving Department, ensure that material is received at the time specified on the order and meets the specifications outlines on the order;
  • With the Mechanical Build Leader, serve as a liaison and Valiant contact with customers on matters relating to work in progress;
  • In conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager and the Plant Manager, ensure that the quality of the work produced is consistent with the customer requirements and Valiant standards;
  • Ensure that jobs are completed on time in accordance with the delivery schedule agreed upon in the Purchase Order;
  • In conjunction with the Plant Manager, establish manpower requirements needed to complete quality jobs on time and on budget. Define sub-contract labour requirements and work with the HR Administrator to fill required temporary positions;

Employee Relations/ Workforce Management

  • Develop and maintain an open communications channel with all employees and be responsive to their needs and concerns;
  • Ensure that employees have the knowledge; skills and abilities to function efficiently and effectively at their job function and achieve a high level of productivity. Assist personnel in problem solving. Know the capabilities of all employees and contractors;
  • Ensure that all employees are being utilized to their maximum potential and encourage employee input for additional efficiencies and product development;
  • Work effectively with team leaders/ coordinators, empowering them to manage their areas of responsibility, supporting them as required, while maintain oversight of all key activities;
  • In co-ordination with the Plant HR Administrator, ensure that employee discipline is in accordance with the company policy of progressive and documented discipline;
  • Ensure that all employees punch in and out on time and that time slips are handed in an properly completed and signed;
  • Promote a general attitude of teamwork and mutual respect among all employees in your department. With the support of the HR Administrator, ensure that all HR policies with respect to employee conduct, harassment, etc. are enforced as necessary.

Plant and Equipment Maintenance

  • In conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager and Plant Manager, ensure that all equipment and tools are properly maintained on a continuous basis and that all equipment is operating at top efficiency at all times;
  • Ensure that employees have on hand the necessary supplies to complete their tasks and establish a control procedure designed to maintain an efficient use of time and resources;
  • Has the authority and obligation to stop production in case unsafe working conditions are observed. Has the obligation to notify the Director IO and the President for Safety related matters requiring immediate attention.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Post-secondary education or Completed Apprentice Program and Certification and/or equivalent experience
  • Ten (10) plus years of related work experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the automotive machine/tool industry
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Exceptional organizational ability
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication abilities.
  • The ability to work with others in a team atmosphere
