Battery New Products Thermal Architect – GPS0001625

Role Summary:
The Battery Thermal Architect – New Products Group is responsible to lead the thermal design and integration for the next generation of battery packs at General Motors . The thermal architect will use a forward thinking approach to maximize cutomer benefits and create a comprehensive thermal solution. This person is involved with the latest battery technology in General Motors electrified vehicles portfolio for future propulsion systems. She or he will work with a high-performance team and will be counted on to innovate and collaborate with team members.

This job is based in General Motor’s Warren Technical Center. The General Motors Technical Center has been named a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior and the National Park Service. The campus opened in 1956 and houses the GM vehicle engineering center, design center, research and manufacturing engineering. It is the workplace of over 18,000 employees on a 1.1 square-mile campus.

Key Job Responsibilities:
Lead battery pack thermal design and integration

Synthesize new thermal strategies
Define customer benefits
Use systems engineering approaches for comprehensive system design
Leverage existing controls strategies and participate in advanced controls design teams
Lead software and hardware design synthesis to maximize forward thinking
for chemistry, controls and sensing

Work to improve battery pack cost, performance by ensuring appropriate requirements balance
Work across all pack designs thermal design expertise

Lead problem resolution activities across thermal performance teams internal and external to the battery

Work collaboratively with subject matter experts (SMEs) to refine advanced concepts
Support Advanced controls teams
Support Advanced Prouplsion Integration Teams
Support Program Management and report-outs per EGM direction
Communicate, coordinate and consult with engineering departments and stakeholders

Required Skills and Experience:
B.S. degree in Engineering
Proficient computer skills including analyzing data, creating presentations
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of automotive energy storage systems
High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
Time management skills to meet agreed upon customer deliverables, able to manage multiple projects
Interpersonal styles and communication skills to work effectively with local and international team members
Technical writing ability to create written engineering evaluation reports
Ability to read, interpret and generate engineering drawings and specifications

Preferred Skills and Experience:
Master’s degree in Engineering
High voltage or electrified vehicle safety training and hands on work experience
10+ Years’ experience with a major automotive OEM
5+ Years’ experience with design and integration of thermal components
DFSS Black Belt Certification
