Job Title: Architectural Designer (8GRR93)

Architectural Designer position available with Gensler, Inc. in New York, NY. Under the supervision of a Technical Director, develop construction documents for commercial and institutional projects, including design standards. Oversee element coordination within BIM (Revit) based on set construction elements and standards. Manage Revit model and provide guidance and direction to Architectural project team. BIM coordination with the MEP, Structural Engineer, Envelope consultant and Food Services consultant. Use Navisworks clash detection to identify issues that need to be resolved before construction. Assist Design Director to establish design standards, space planning, and programming based on clients’ functional and spatial requirements while meeting conceptual design goals. Using site surveys, design sketches, and other inputs, prepare complex digital architectural models using REVIT and based on BIM development standards. Produce computer generated renderings, graphs, charts, overlays, and isometric drawings. Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, 3Ds Max, Sketchup, Rhino or hand drafting to communicate design concepts to clients and colleagues. In conjunction with Project Architect/Manager, resolve technical/design issues to maintain plan progress and quality control. Ensure that construction detail documentation and specifications conform to highest quality specifications and best practice standards using Revit or alternate designated design system. Application of building codes, accessibility requirements, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications, and construction techniques. Determine the best approaches for the completion of drawings, and solve technical issues related to finishes and materials. Participate in construction administration of project assignments and act as contact person, working with consultants, contractors, fabricators, as well as regulatory agencies to meet overall project goals. Bring experience of working with historic modernist buildings and prepare documentation for public review as required by regulatory agencies such as Landmarks Preservation Commission and New York City Department of Buildings. Client based experience including oral presentations and preparation of meeting notes.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Architecture or a related field and two years of experience as an Architectural Designer, Job Captain, Technical Designer, Architectural Intern or related occupation.

Experience and/or education must include:
Picking up redlines in Revit and AutoCAD drawn by senior staff;

Preparing test fits (examples of layouts of the space that meet their programming requirements) for the client in AutoCAD;

Working with interior designers to select furniture and finishes;

Creating presentations (rendered plans, elevations, 3D views, diagrams) based off of the direction of a senior designer using Rhino, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator;

Conceptual design generation using collaging, sketching by hand markers/pencils, inspirational images;

Develop reflected ceiling plans for office space, which documents the sprinklers, lighting, speakers, exit signs, wireless access points, ceiling finishes in accordance to codes; and

Drawing of millwork details for pantries and bathrooms.
