ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY!The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities – Information Systems and Services Division is recruiting for an Analyst/Programmer III position to join our team in Juneau and help usKeep Alaska Moving!Our Application Services section is a close-knit group who values ethics, hard-work, professional courtesy and respect.We are looking to add a talented and creative software engineer to our support team who can help support the Department’s systems that are utilized and maintained by the Geospatial Engineering Services (GES) section. This includes continued support of all interfaces related to the geographic information systems (GIS) and the intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Our ideal applicant would have strong background in systems analysis, development, maintenance, geographic information systems (GIS), and experience with object-oriented programming, client-side Web scripting and interfacing with relational databases. However, we are willing to consider those persons with experience in similar technologies and also have a strong desire to learn the skills needed for the types of systems that we build and maintain.Desired Key Background SkillsIf you have documented work experience with any of the following key areas, we could have the opportunity that you seek. Python programming language; JavaScript; Object-oriented programming; Developing Web applications and experience with Web-related standards (e.g. HTML5, CSS, JavaScript Web APIs, SVG, WCAG); REST web services; Designing and querying Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server or other relational databases; SQL, PL/SQL or T-SQL; Designing complex Jasper Reports, Crystal Reports or with other reporting technologies; XML; Writing software that interfaces with geographical databases or Esri Roads and Highways; Centralized Linear Referencing System (LRS); Esri ArcGIS server; Esri Collector or mobile application development; Using version control software; and Release managementIf you have some combination of the above skills and also have strengths in the following areas, we urge you to apply for this position. Strong analytical skills; Working on mission critical systems and how they inter-relate to internal and external systems and business requirements; Good technical writing skills; Writing system specifications and requirements documents; Successfully managing tight deadlines, setting goals and achieving objectives; and Understanding of the importance of supporting end-users and have the ability to engage in effective communications with them.

Two years of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of this experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty.Substitution: A bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for one year of the required experience. An associate’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience.Special Note: Individual positions at each level in this class series may require expertise in a particular area of programming or analysis. Recruitment and selection will be on the basis of these requirements.For some positions in these job classes a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
